I keep reading this. Thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and honest response. You are absolutely right about it being like the women who screamed in Ruby Ridge’s face. I think you also hit right on a secret about all of it — it feels good for some people to denigrate the “other.” It feels good to take some of your power back in that extremely harmful way. People do delight in misfortune. Like you said, watching lynchings even, but also in the downfall of others. “People who cheer trauma cannot be trusted.” Amen.
